Vent: That paralegal who said I was overcharging for contract review
I had this client, a paralegal named Mark from Austin, who got upset I charged $150 for a freelance contract review. He kept saying his old lawyer did it for $100 and it took less time, but I found two liability gaps he missed. I stood my ground and explained the value, and he eventually agreed but it left a bad taste. Has anyone else dealt with pushy clients who undervalue the detail work?

Well $150 for a quick skim does sound steep if a lawyer does it for a hundred.

Yeah "quick skim" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. I bet what they really mean is they'll glance at it for 10 minutes and call it a day, then bill you for the "research time" after they find one typo and claim it saved your company. Honestly $150 for a lawyer's "quick skim" sounds like the bargain bin version too. Around here you're lucky to get a lawyer to look at your email subject line for under $200. Maybe this is the "economy size" legal review where they skip half the pages.
