Walked out of a mediation in Denver last Tuesday after the opposing party lied about an email
Now I double-check every single piece of correspondence before I even walk into a room, has anyone else had to fact-check their own clients like that?

Wait, you actually had to double-check your own client's emails? That's wild. I've had clients lie to me before but never about something so easy to prove. Did they send the email themselves or was it a forwarded thing that got doctored? Sounds like a nightmare to walk into a room not knowing who's telling the truth. I'd start recording every single conversation after that crap.

Oh man, @the_john, you hit the nail on the head. My advice is to always save a PDF of any important email right when you get it, because forwarded stuff can get tweaked so easily. It's a pain but it saves you from walking into a meeting where someone's word is all you've got.

Had a client once swear they sent plans that just never arrived. Turned out they forgot to hit send.

Is it really that common though, or are we just remembering the worst of it? I've had clients do the exact same thing, but half the time it wasn't malice, it's just pure chaos on their end. It's like @jana509 said about saving PDFs, the real issue is people relying on email at all for important stuff. A simple phone call to confirm would've saved everyone a headache.
