Wasted $150 on pre-made legal templates before realizing they didn't fit my state
Ngl I thought I was being smart by buying a $150 bundle of contract templates from some random site. Turns out the LLC operating agreement didn't even include California's specific section for community property rules. Had to pay a real freelance lawyer $400 to fix it anyway. Has anyone else found a decent source for state-specific legal forms that won't break the bank?

Wait wait wait - you're telling me that random template site actually charged you $150 for forms that didn't even have California's community property rules? That's wild. I thought those companies at least copied the right state boilerplate from somewhere. Guess they just grab whatever generic junk they find and call it a day. Must be nice to take people's money for stuff that's literally unusable in half the country.

lol I did the exact same thing last year. Bought a "comprehensive" business contract bundle and the non-compete clause was completely unenforceable in my state. What worked for me was checking if my local Small Business Development Center has free form libraries - they usually partner with actual lawyers to keep things up to date. Also Nolo's state specific guides are way cheaper than those sketchy template sites and they actually explain which sections change by state. For California I'd check CalBar's free resources too, they have a whole page on LLC stuff that's updated annually.
