A coffee with an old client made me rethink my whole rate structure
Ran into a guy I used to do web work for back in 2017 at a diner in Portland. He said he still uses the site I built for him, and that I was the only freelancer who actually listened to what he needed. It hit different because I've been jacking up my prices every year thinking clients only care about the final product, but maybe they care more about the process... Has anyone else had a former client reach out years later and make you question how you price things?

Yeah "pricing is about trust and listening" really hit home with me @kimr91, I used to think the exact opposite but you changed my mind.

Is it really that deep though? @sean48 I mean yeah trust matters but at the end of the day they're paying for a logo not a therapy session right?

Honestly this is more common than people think. I had a guy I did logo work for in 2015 hit me up last year saying he still gets compliments on it. Made me realize pricing is about trust and listening more than just the final file. Ngl I started charging a flat rate for discovery calls and it weeded out the clients who just want cheap work. Tbh the clients who stay for years are the ones who feel heard, not the ones who just liked your portfolio.
