I sent a video pitch to a client in Denver and it totally backfired

I saw a tip online about making a quick video to introduce yourself instead of a plain email, so I spent an hour making one for a potential project. The client wrote back saying they found it 'unprofessional' and that they 'don't have time for videos', which really threw me off. I learned that what works for some people can really annoy others, and now I'm sticking to my old email template unless someone asks for something else. Has anyone else had a client react badly to a new way of reaching out?

Wait they said an hour long video? I must have read that wrong. No way you sent a full hour of yourself talking, that's like a whole movie. I'd close that in two seconds flat. Even a 10 minute video is way too much for a first contact. A super short clip is one thing, but an hour is just asking to get ignored or roasted.

That's rough, but maybe the problem was the video itself, not the idea. An hour-long video is a huge ask for a busy person. A quick 60-second clip attached to a normal email can work better. Did your video get right to the point, or was it more of a general intro?

Feel for you, that's a tough spot to be in. An hour is way too long for anyone's inbox these days. Seth's right, a super short clip is the only thing that might get watched.
