Rant: I tried using a free proposal template versus building my own from scratch
Honestly, the free one felt generic and I lost a $5k project. Ngl, spending 3 hours making my own with past wins and case studies landed the next two clients. Anyone have a good structure they swear by?

Yeah, that part about templates not showing your real value is exactly what I read in an article last week. It said clients can smell a copy-paste job from a mile away. Ross.kim is totally right about learning it the hard way, my first few tries were the same. Spending the time to build your own with real results is the only way it feels like you're actually talking to the client. A good structure I stole from a friend is just problem, how I fixed it for someone else, and exactly what I'll do for them, keep it super simple.

My first template looked like a robot wrote it, no wonder nobody replied. Kevin_lane's friend has the right idea with that simple three-part structure. I guess we all have to send a few bad ones before we figure it out.
