Why I stopped saying 'sure, I can do that' on the spot

I was at a coffee shop in Austin last month when a potential client asked if I could add a full animation to their logo project, and I just said yes without thinking about the extra time. Six hours later I realized I had basically agreed to work for free because my flat fee didn't cover all that extra work. How do you handle scope creep without sounding like a jerk in the moment?

Oh man, "20 dollars short" - I mean technically it's $20 short, not dollars. Sorry, I know that's super pedantic but it just jumped out at me. But yeah, totally feel you on that lesson, some of them hurt the most.

Appreciate you jumping in to correct the grammar mid-lesson, real MVP move there. Pretty sure the universe doesn't care about proper dollar formatting when it's busy teaching you a painful life lesson. At least now we all know it's $20 not dollars short, so silver lining I guess?
