I stopped chasing every keyword tool's "high volume" suggestions last year and it actually worked

Used to just plug a keyword into Semrush and go with whatever had 10k searches. Now I only pick terms where the first 3 results are weak, like forum threads or outdated blog posts. Has anyone else noticed that targeting low competition with 200 searches beats fighting for a 5k keyword?

Those 200 search terms won't pay the bills at scale.

Less traffic, better results. Like picking the empty checkout line.

My blog started getting actual comments after I switched to hunting down keywords from old Reddit threads with like 80 visits a month. The difference is those readers actually want what you wrote instead of just clicking past your ad. @the_hayden nailed it with the checkout line comparison because fighting over high volume keywords is like standing in the longest line at the grocery store for no reason.
