Pro tip: my main client's site got hit with a manual action last week
I logged into Search Console on Tuesday and saw the notification (my heart just dropped). It was for unnatural links, and the penalty date was retroactive by about 4 months. I had to scramble to pull a full backlink report, identify the toxic ones, and start the disavow process immediately. Has anyone else had to submit a reconsideration request recently and know how long the review is taking now?

Did they give any hint about which links were the problem, or was it just a blanket "unnatural" warning?

Honestly, I get why they're vague. If they spelled out exactly which links, people would just game that one specific thing and spam harder. A blanket warning forces you to actually review your whole link profile, which is the point. It's annoying, but the secrecy makes some sense from their side. You think they should hand out a detailed cheat sheet to every site they catch?
