The 'topic cluster' shortcut that doubled my traffic in 60 days

I kept reading all this SEO advice about building topic clusters and pillar pages. Sounded like a ton of extra work for something that might not even work. But I was stuck on about 500 visitors a month for a client in Austin who runs a small landscaping business. After 3 months of nothing moving, I decided to try one cluster around 'drought resistant grass types' since that's big in Texas. I wrote one main pillar page and linked out to 8 smaller posts I already had, then added 2 new ones. Within two months, that cluster went from zero rankings to page one for like 6 different keywords. Total traffic jumped to about 1,100 a month. The trick was not in writing new content, it was in actually fixing the internal links between existing posts. I had posts sitting there for a year that just needed proper linking. Has anyone else found that internal linking does way more than people give it credit for?

Man, preach it. I totally agree with you. Everyone's so busy chasing fancy tactics they forget the basics. I see it all the time in my own work. People get obsessed with backlinks and forget their own site is a mess. Internal linking is the easiest way to get more out of what you already got. It's the low hanging fruit nobody picks. Good on you for seeing the results, that's proof right there.

Oh wow, so you're telling me the secret to SEO was just... actually connecting my own content together? Mind blowing. I've been out here throwing spaghetti at the wall for years when all I needed was a friendly little hyperlink chain. Honestly though, internal linking is like the unsung hero nobody invites to the party. Everyone's out here chasing backlinks and keyword density while their old posts are just gathering dust in the corner like forgotten leftovers.

Nah hard disagree. Internal links barely move the needle compared to real backlinks.

Backlinks are still king, but internal links help the juice flow to your deeper pages. You're sleeping on how much they help Google find your best stuff.
