Thought google penalties were a myth until I woke up to 95% traffic loss last Tuesday
Was always the guy saying 'just build good content and you'll be fine' when people talked about getting hit by updates. Then last Tuesday morning checked analytics and my main site went from 200 visits a day to maybe 10. Checked search console and saw 'manual action' for unnatural links. Hadn't bought links in like 3 years but apparently got hit for some old guest post network stuff from 2021. Been scrambling all week trying to get a reconsideration request together. Anybody else get caught off guard by an old penalty coming back?

Did you actually get rid of those links or just hope they wouldn't matter anymore?

Honestly yeah, @jamesc79 has a point though. I've had links I thought were dead come back to haunt me months later. Better to just delete the whole account and start fresh if you can.
