Finally got my first repeat booking from a job I did last month
Last month I did a small website fix for a cafe in Denver, and the owner just emailed me to build them a whole new online menu system. I was worried they'd just use me once and move on, but this feels like a real step. How do you guys turn a one-off job into more regular work?

jones.kim saying that about the cafe owner just wanting cheap updates forever, man that reminds me of my buddy who does handyman work. He put in a new sink for this family and they started calling him for every little thing, like changing lightbulbs on a 20 foot ceiling. He had to learn to say no to the small stuff or he'd never get new jobs.

and yeah my cousin does landscaping and now he's basically on call for these people who want him to come over and move one potted plant three inches to the left. it's like once you do a good job they think you're their personal servant for life or something. you have to draw a hard line or they'll just keep taking advantage of your time and skills for free. i don't blame anyone who starts saying no to the small stuff, you gotta protect your actual paying work.

Regular work sounds nice until you're stuck fixing the same broken menu every week. That cafe owner probably just wants cheap updates forever now. One off jobs mean you get paid and move on to something new. Building a whole system for them could turn into endless small requests for no extra money.

Remember my friend who made a website for a bakery? They still text her for tiny changes two years later, for free.
