Rant: That $300 'freelance masterclass' was a total waste

I bought an online course from a guy named Mark who promised to teach me how to land big clients. It was just a bunch of recycled blog posts and vague advice, nothing I couldn't find for free. I'm out $300 and a whole weekend I could have spent on actual work. Has anyone found a course or resource that actually gave you real, specific steps for finding work?

Yeah, the "vague advice" thing is a real problem. I got burned on a course like that a few years back. What actually helped me was finding one person who was doing the exact work I wanted, then just studying their public stuff for free. I looked at their website, their past projects, even how they talked to clients on social media. It gave me a real blueprint to copy and adjust for myself.

Totally get the "study one person" idea, but calling it a blueprint to copy feels off. It's more like finding a good recipe, you know? You still gotta swap ingredients for your own style and clients. I tried copying someone's website word for word once and it just sounded fake.

How do you find the right person to study?
