Shoutout to the guy at the library who talked me out of a project management tool

I was about to drop $50 a month on some fancy dashboard app until this older freelancer next to me at the Austin public library said 'you know, a pocket notebook and a pen never crashed or lost your data.' He showed me his worn-out spiral with scribbled deadlines and it hit me that I was just looking for a fix to bad habits. Has anyone else had a random stranger talk them out of an expensive tool that actually worked?

Did you end up switching to paper?

We went full paper for about two weeks and it was a nightmare lmao. The daily prep lists were fine but trying to track orders across 3 different notebooks got messy real fast. Ended up going back to a tablet for the order system and kept paper just for the quick morning notes.

We went half and half actually. Still use paper for the daily prep lists since it's faster to jot down. But switched the main order system to digital and it's been way smoother.

Did the notebook also save him $50 a month?
