Finally caved and bought a proper monitor arm for $120.

My desk was a mess of cables and my old monitor stand took up half the space. Mounting it cleared everything up and gave me back a ton of room to work. Anyone have tips for keeping the cables tidy behind the arm itself?

My old monitor stand never bothered me at all.

Yeah @jones.kim, my old one was fine too until I tried a cheap arm mount. Now I can't go back, way easier on my neck.

Cheap mounts are great until you need to move your desk around. Had to drill new holes in mine last week because the arm wouldn't reach the new spot. That flexibility can turn into a real pain.

@jones.kim I get that your old stand didnt bug you but for people with limited desk space the arm is a game changer. The cable management is actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it. I picked up some velcro strips from the dollar store and wrapped them around the arm every few inches. Also if your arm has those plastic clips or channels use those first before anything else. Makes a huge difference for me especially when I need to reposition the screen throughout the day.
