My home office turned into a bug hotel for a day

I was deep in a project at my kitchen table in Akron last Tuesday when a huge ant swarm came out of the wall behind my monitor. They were everywhere, crawling over my keyboard and notes. I had to grab my laptop and move the whole operation to my car for two hours while I dealt with it. Has anyone else had their workspace totally taken over by something wild like that?

Ever notice how our homes are never really sealed off from the outside world? Your ant story is just a loud version of the spiders and flies we all deal with quietly. The line between inside and outside is a lot thinner than we like to admit.

My buddy Steve in his third floor apartment found a baby possum in his sock drawer last spring. It had come up through the walls from some hole in the building's foundation. He said it really messed with his head, like the walls were just a suggestion. Makes you wonder what's moving through the hidden spaces of a house right now.

You're totally right, and @david920's possum story proves it. I once had a whole family of mice living in my kitchen cabinets, which felt like a full invasion. It really does make the walls feel like they're just for show.
