Question about the 'dedicated desk' setup in a shared office

Honestly, I rented a dedicated desk at The Grid co-working space in Kansas City for 8 months thinking it was the perfect professional move. What tipped me off was when I realized I was paying $350 a month to basically just store my monitor and keyboard, because I was actually working from coffee shops or my couch 4 days a week. I'm debating if the fixed cost and 'professional address' are worth it versus just being fully nomadic and saving the cash. Has anyone else stuck with a desk they barely use, or did you drop it and not look back?

Sounds like you bought a very expensive locker. That setup only works if you actually show up, otherwise it's just a weird monthly art project. Cutting that cord feels pretty good.

Read something about how paying for stuff you don't use is basically just buying a bad mood. Canceling it is a relief.

That "expensive locker" idea from @noahwood hits home. The hidden cost is the mental tax of feeling guilty for not using it, which can actually make you less productive. You start avoiding the space you pay for because it reminds you of wasted money. It stops being a tool and becomes a chore. For me, that monthly fee became a penalty for not being the person I thought I should be, rather than a payment for a useful service.
