Vent: Overheard a guy at a coffee shop bragging about 'the perfect desk setup' while spilling latte on his laptop

I was at a shared workspace in Portland last week and this dude is literally describing his $3000 standing desk rig to someone on the phone. Meanwhile foam drips off his cup onto his keyboard. Made me think how we all get so obsessed with gear but half of us can't do basic stuff like closing tabs or backing up files. I've been working off a $40 folding table from Target for 2 years and my only rule is no drinks on the desk. Am I the only one who thinks most workspace advice is just people flexing?

Right? It's like people missing the point while obsessing over the fancy stuff everywhere now.

Simple desk, no drinks near electronics - works every time.

Wait, $3000 for a standing desk rig? Is that including the motorized legs and everything or did he also buy some fancy wood slab? Because I just looked up that price and my jaw hit the floor. I can't wrap my head around dropping that kind of cash on a desk when you could literally just put your laptop on a stack of books and get the same standing setup for free. And the foam dripping on the keyboard part really gets me - that's just asking for a disaster. I've seen people ruin expensive laptops from a single coffee spill and then act surprised. Makes you wonder how much of that setup is just for show when basic common sense is missing.
