Choosing between a cheap room in a noisy house or a quiet studio that cost half my income was a tough call.
I picked the studio in Austin for $1400 a month, and while my focus is better, I'm taking on extra gigs just to cover rent, so what's your take on budgeting for quiet space versus just dealing with distractions?

Wait, half your income is $1400?

You caught that too, huh? Reminds me of a friend who thought his new salary was huge until he saw the tax line. Numbers on paper never tell the whole story.

Uma's math is off. Half your income would be $2800 a month if the studio is $1400. The real question is if the quiet is worth the extra work. I've done both, and trading time for peace of mind only works if those extra gigs don't burn you out. You can't focus if you're exhausted from working all the time just to pay for a quiet place to work.
