Finally got the city to approve my home office as a proper business address

Wasted $150 on a 'virtual office' service for six months before realizing I could just file a simple zoning form. Anyone else navigate this paperwork maze?

Classic city hall move. That zoning form is always buried somewhere.

Tell me about it. I spent a year paying for a P.O. box because I thought my neighborhood was zoned residential only. Turns out there was a tiny home occupation permit I could have filed online for like thirty bucks. The city website makes it impossible to find, you have to know the exact name of the form.

I spent six months calling it the "home business thingy" before someone like @maryr43 told me the actual form name.

Yeah the "exact name of the form" thing is so real. I mean, I had to call the planning desk and just ask "what's the form called for doing freelance work from home?" The guy said "oh, that's the HO-7A." You'd never guess that from the website. It's all under "zoning compliance applications" but you have to scroll past like fifty other permits.
