Why does nobody talk about the noise risk with those 'live/work' lofts?

I used to think a cool industrial space was the dream, but after six months in a converted warehouse in Kansas City, the constant echo from other units drove me nuts. Now I only look at top-floor apartments or detached houses, even if it costs an extra $300 a month. Has anyone else found a good fix for sound in these places besides just moving?

Tried heavy curtains and a thick rug, which cut the echo down a lot for me.

Remember my buddy who moved into that trendy loft in the Crossroads? He lasted three months. The guy above him was a drummer, and the woman next door ran a pottery studio with a wheel that hummed all day. He tried those foam panels, but they just looked sad on the brick walls. He said it was like living inside a giant speaker.

My cousin in St. Louis called his live-work loft a "sound coliseum." He said the acoustic panels he bought just made it look like a sad recording studio that also had to pay rent. The final straw was realizing the constant thumping wasn't just the neighbor's bass, it was the HVAC system having a nervous breakdown.
