Spent $400 on a noise-cancelling headset and it saved my sanity

I was working out of a shared space in downtown Portland. Loud open office, phones ringing everywhere. Couldn't focus on anything. Finally dropped $400 on a proper headset. Not the cheap earbuds, the over-ear kind that really block stuff out. First day using it I got through my whole to-do list by noon. Never realized how much background noise was killing my productivity. Now I won't work without it. Anyone else find one piece of gear that just changed everything?

Oh man, can I relate to this or what? That first day with real noise cancelling is honestly a life changer, right? I got a pair for my home setup and it totally changed how I focus, I can't believe I waited so long. It's wild how you don't realize how much the small sounds are draining your brain until they're just gone. So glad that headset worked out for you, it sounds like the best $400 you ever spent!

Are we really acting like noise cancelling headphones are some life changing miracle? I mean they're fine for drowning out the hum of a fridge or whatever but it's not like they're gonna fix your life. @carr.luna I get where you're coming from but I think people hype this stuff way too much. Like yeah they help a bit but if your brain gets drained by random small sounds that might be more of a you problem than a world problem. I've got a pair and they're okay but I don't get the whole "I can't believe I waited" thing. They're just headphones. Not exactly a major revelation.
