Can we talk about how everyone thinks Thailand is the only cheap place to relocate?

I keep seeing posts about moving to Chiang Mai for the low cost of living, but have you actually looked at other spots? I spent 3 months in Da Nang, Vietnam last year and my rent was $250 for a furnished studio with a pool. Thailand has gotten way more tourist-priced lately, especially around the digital nomad hubs. Vietnam, on the other hand, has cheaper street food, cheaper coworking spaces, and way less competition for good wifi. Maybe it's just me but I feel like people sleep on places like Penang or Medellin too. Has anyone else tried a less obvious city and found it way better?

Wait til you try living in Medellin for a month and realize your daily budget for coffee and arepas is barely $5. I swear people just follow the herd to Thailand cause it's the only place they've ever heard of on TikTok. You tried any random spots in Colombia yet?

Hold up a sec, I gotta say something about the Colombia part. Ive spent time in Medellin and Bogota and honestly, the daily budget thing is true for coffee and street food but $5 is pushing it a little. In my experience, you can get a solid arepa and a tinto for about a buck or two, but if you want anything more than that, like a real lunch, itll cost you closer to $3 or $4. And yeah, people do flock to Thailand because its all over social media, but Colombia has its own hidden gems like Salento or the coffee region that are way less crowded. Just dont expect to stretch that $5 too far unless youre really sticking to the basics.

Five bucks a day for food sounds like a flex more than actual advice.
