My bank froze my account the day I landed in Mexico City

I moved there for six months and tried to pay my rent online. They thought it was fraud and blocked everything. How do you tell your bank you're moving without this happening?

Didn't you call them before you left?

Calling ahead doesn't always work. I told my bank my travel dates and they still flagged a simple grocery purchase. Their fraud systems are overly sensitive and seem to trigger on location alone, no matter what you tell the call center.

Actually the bigger problem is these systems don't talk to each other. You tell the call center, but the automated fraud algorithm runs on a totally different set of rules. It just sees a card swipe 500 miles from home and freezes things. @the_hayden has a point that calling is the step you're supposed to take, but it's like telling one person in a big company and hoping they tell the right computer. They really need to fix that link so the travel note actually stops the alerts.
