Pro tip: That $80 smart light switch nearly cost me my sanity
I bought one of those fancy smart switches for my living room, thinking it would be cool to control the lights with my phone. It was about eighty bucks. The install instructions looked simple, but it needed a neutral wire my old house doesn't have. I spent a whole Saturday trying to make it work, reading forums and watching videos. In the end, I had to put the old dumb switch back in and now I have a very expensive paperweight. The worst part is the app still sends me notifications to set up the device I can't use. Has anyone actually gotten one of these to work in an older place without rewiring everything?

Ugh, did you find a workaround?

Actually, what if the workaround is to just not do the thing at all?

Yeah, 'just don't do it' is definitely one way to go, but it kind of dodges the whole question. Like, if it's a light switch that's been working fine for 80 years and suddenly it's a problem, maybe the fix is simpler than we think. Half the time people overcomplicate stuff. It's probably just a loose wire or something, not a full blown crisis.
