Had to pick between a granite countertop or quartzite for my kitchen remodel in Boise

The granite was cheaper at $65 per square foot, but the quartzite from Brazil had this amazing movement in the stone. I went with the quartzite because it felt more unique, even though it cost about 30% more. Anyone have experience with how quartzite holds up to daily kitchen use compared to granite?

Boise's got hard water too, right? I've heard conflicting things about quartzite - some people say it's basically granite-level tough, others claim it etches from a single lemon slice (looking at you, @miles_schmidt with your five years of no stains). My neighbor dropped a wine glass and her quartzite showed a mark where the granite would've just laughed it off. But then again, she picked a sealed stone and maybe yours is different. Feels like everyone's got a wildly different experience depending on exactly which rock they got, so I'd treat any blanket statement with a big grain of salt.

Wow, I was team granite until my quartzite proved tougher.

Good call going with the quartzite for the look lol. Mine's held up great for five years with zero stains or etching, even with two kids. The extra cost felt worth it for something that stays nice.

My sister's quartzite countertop cracked after a year.
