Pro tip: I started blocking off lunch on my calendar and stopped getting last-minute meeting invites from clients
After 3 months of skipping meals for random calls, I finally set a recurring 'unavailable' block from 12-1 and my inbox actually stopped filling up between those hours, anyone else try this or got a better system for protecting your time?

oh man the accidental lunch trap is real i did that once where i blocked off 12-1 and then my boss just started booking over it anyway cause he said "oh i thought that was just your preference" lol had to be super blunt and tell him i'm literally not at my desk during that time eating in the break room with my phone on do not disturb. the key is to name the block something aggressive like "MEAL TIME - WILL NOT RESPOND" so people get the hint. eventually they learn when you stop replying to those 12:15 emails they send.

My buddy Mark tried this and his boss actually moved their weekly 1-on-1 to 12:30 because it was the only slot open on his calendar. Took him two weeks to realize he'd accidentally blocked himself into lunch meetings with the same guy every Tuesday.

Mark's boss probably thinks he scored a regular lunch buddy now. @kevinw94 did Mark ever tell his boss it was an accident or did he just let that poor guy bring his sad desk sandwich to a 30-minute status update every week? I've seen people do this on purpose to get face time with executives but accidentally trapping yourself is a whole new level. What happened after those two weeks?
