The 'quick peek' that cost me a full day in Portland
I was doing a light fixture swap in a client's kitchen last Tuesday, and they asked if I could 'just peek' at a flickering outlet nearby. I stupidly said sure without checking the breaker, and ended up tracing a daisy-chained mess that had three different circuits tied together. My lunch break turned into a 6 hour headache, and the original job that should have been 2 hours turned into a full 9 hour day. I charged my normal hourly rate, but the client acted shocked when the invoice was $540 instead of the $180 we agreed. Has anyone else learned the hard way that 'while you're here' requests never stay small?

That "peek" turned into a job, and the price should reflect the job, not the guess. A written estimate before touching the outlet might have saved you both the shock.
