Just realized I was overpaying for health insurance for 2 years

I used to just pick the cheapest Bronze plan every year on the marketplace. Thought that was smart for a freelancer saving money. Then last December I got hit with a $3,000 bill for an ER visit and realized my deductible was basically useless. A friend in Austin told me to try a Silver plan with cost-sharing reductions instead. Now I pay $45 more a month but my out-of-pocket max dropped by $4,000. Has anyone else switched plans and seen a big difference in real costs?

Used to think bronze was always the play since it was cheapest upfront. Saw a breakdown someone posted on Reddit showing how Silver plans with CSR actually pay for themselves if you use any healthcare at all. Real eye opener for sure, definitely changed how I look at plan tiers now.

Switching to a Silver CSR plan saved my butt too. My ER co-pay went from $500 to $75 and I actually hit my deductible one year for once.

Wait, have you actually added up what you paid in premiums over 2 years on the Silver vs what you were paying on Bronze? I ran the numbers on my old plan and the extra $45 a month adds up to over a thousand bucks a year, and I barely went to the doctor. Feels like you're only winning if you actually get sick enough to use that deductible.
