Rant: That $300 urgent care visit I didn't actually need

I wasted 3 hours and $300 at a chain urgent care last month because I panicked over a rash. Turns out it was just poison ivy - could have treated it with $8 calamine lotion. Has anyone else overpaid for a clinic visit when a telehealth option would have worked?

Actually that $300 might not be the whole story. A lot of urgent cares are owned by private equity firms now and they really push upcharges on everything. Your poison ivy couldve been treated with a $20 teledoc visit instead, easy peasy. The thing is, we've been trained to think rashes = emergency when really most of them are harmless. Next time try taking a photo and sending it to your regular doctor's portal first. That's what I do now and it saves a TON of money and hassle.

So @zarat37, you're telling me I need a whole flowchart now for a plant rash instead of just showing up and paying the "stupid tax"?
