Shoutout to my dentist for the HDHP reality check
I was stuck between a bronze PPO for $280 a month and a HDHP with HSA for $195. My dentist told me my crown would cost $600 under the PPO but only $200 with my negotiated cash rate, so I went HDHP. Three months in and I've already banked $340 in the HSA from the premium savings. Has anyone else crunched the numbers on dental work vs plan costs?

That crown cash price sounds low, I'd double-check it's not missing lab fees or x-rays.

Got a call about this exact thing last month. Patterson quoted $850 for the lab fee alone on a molar crown, plus another $60 for the digital scan. @mason.drew is right - that $599 cash price is likely just the doctor's prep fee, not the whole package. Ask them straight up what the total out-the-door number is before you put any money down. Those surprise charges add up fast.
