Spent $200 on a dental plan through the marketplace and it covered almost nothing
Signed up for a mid tier Ambetter plan last November thinking I was being smart about my teeth. First cleaning and x rays cost me $85 out of pocket because my plan had a 6 month waiting period for basic care. Anyone else run into these waiting period traps with marketplace dental plans?

I used to be the guy who told everyone to just get the cheap marketplace dental plan and you'd be fine. Then I signed up for a Delta Dental plan through the exchange last year, paid $180, and found out my first two cleanings weren't covered because of a 12 month waiting period for anything beyond exams. The fine print said "basic services" had a waiting period but I thought that meant like crowns or root canals, not a routine cleaning. Totally changed my mind on these plans, now I just pay cash at a dental school near me.

Honestly, the whole "read the fine print" thing is such a trap cause you literally never know what's actually considered a "basic service" until you get screwed. It's like how every phone plan says "unlimited data" but then they throttle you after 20GB. Or how car warranties have that "wear and tear" clause that excludes half the parts you actually need fixed. Gray, you're onto something real though, it's wild how these companies hide the real rules in tiny text while the big print makes it sound like a deal. Makes you wonder what else we're all signing up for that'll bite us later.

Man, you hit the nail on the head there. It's like every time you think you've got a handle on something, they change the rules on you. I remember signing up for a "free" gym membership trial back in the day, and they snuck in a clause about a three month minimum if you didn't cancel within the first week. That fine print is basically a trap door they hope you never find until it's too late. Makes you wonder if any of those "guarantees" are actually worth the paper they're printed on, right?
