Used to go for the cheapest bronze plan every year, but after a $4,200 ER bill last March I switched to a silver plan with a $0 deductible.
I always thought saving $80 a month was the smart move until I actually got sick and that low deductible saved me thousands on one hospital visit - has anyone else had a similar wake-up call about going too cheap?

Wait, four thousand dollars? That's insane.

Right, $4,200 is brutal for one ER visit. I had a similar shock when a quick urgent care trip for a bad infection somehow turned into a $1,500 bill because my bronze plan barely covered anything. Now I definitely pay a little more each month for a plan with a lower deductible, and the peace of mind is worth every penny.

I mean, $4,200 sounds bad but is it really that serious compared to paying way more every month for years? Idk, sometimes the math doesn't add up if you don't actually get sick that often.
