Found the $12 fix for my monitor wobble that was driving me nuts

My standing desk had this annoying wobble every time I typed (you know when you're in the zone?). Tried all the expensive gas lift replacements until I just tossed a $12 rubber mat under the feet. No more shake. Has anyone else found a random cheap hack that solved a bigger problem than expected?

Haha "when you're in the zone" - that's exactly when my monitor does its little shimmy dance too! I feel your pain so much. My cheap hack was using a folded up cardboard coaster from a pizza place under one corner of my desk. Honestly it looked ridiculous but it stopped the wobble completely. I told myself I'd go buy a proper fix but it's been like 8 months now and I just pretend the cardboard is part of my desk's aesthetic or whatever. The best part is I've spent way more money on dumb accessories that didn't work half as well as that greasy pizza coaster. Sometimes the dumbest solution really is the best one.

Actually I saw this video last week where a guy used a folded up napkin under a short table leg at a coffee shop and it got me thinking about how many of these little fixes are just laying around. My own monitor stand has a stack of sticky notes under one corner because I'm too lazy to find the little rubber feet that fell off years ago. It's funny how we'll spend 40 bucks on a cable organizer but a free piece of cardboard solves the real problem sitting right in front of us. I think there's something kind of charming about a setup that looks a bit janky but works perfectly, you know?

Oh man, "shimmy dance" is the perfect way to describe it... @henry_anderson54 that pizza coaster story is gold. I did something similar with a stack of old business cards under my desk leg for like a year. My wife kept asking why I didn't just buy a leveling foot and I was like "because this works and I don't have to leave my chair." The janky stuff always seems to outlast the proper fixes somehow. I think there's something satisfying about solving a problem with whatever random object is closest to you. It's like you're beating the system by not spending money on something dumb. My monitor used to wobble so bad during a tight deadline that I'd have to hold it still with one hand while typing... that rubber mat saved my sanity in a way no expensive gadget ever could.
