Talked to my electrician buddy about my desk setup and he called me out
I was showing off my new cable management under my standing desk and he just laughed and said I needed a proper power solution instead of those cheap extension cords. He pointed out I had 6 devices plugged into one strip that was rated for way less and said I was asking for a fire. Has anyone else had a pro give them a reality check on their home office build?

He's not wrong though. I had a similar wake up call when my buddy who does home inspections saw my setup. Told me I was basically running a space heater off a lamp cord. Daisy chaining power strips is way more common than people admit but it's legit dangerous. I went and got a proper UPS with surge protection after that, rated for the actual load. Feels way better knowing I'm not gonna burn my house down while I'm sleeping.

My buddy Mike thought he was slick with his gaming PC setup until his electrician uncle came over for a BBQ. Took one look at the four power strips daisy chained under his desk and just shook his head. Said he had like 900 watts running through a strip rated for 600, plus the cords were all hot to the touch. Mike spent the next weekend running a dedicated circuit and mounting a real surge protector to the desk leg, no more daisy chain nightmare.
