Warning: don't install dark carpet in a home office with south facing windows
I did a job for a lady in Tucson last month and her dark gray carpet was 15 degrees hotter than the tile by 2pm. She couldn't sit at her desk without the AC cranking. Has anyone else dealt with heat issues from flooring choices?

Oh man, I can totally one up that. I put dark brown carpet in my own living room once and by 3pm I could literally feel the heat coming off the floor through my socks. It was like walking on a sidewalk in July. My AC ran twice as hard just to keep the room cool and my electric bill shot up like crazy that summer. Switched to a light beige carpet the next year and it made a world of difference. Never again with dark flooring near windows that get hammered by sun all afternoon.

You ever try putting a lighter area rug over the worst spots, @kim_mason55? I did that with a cheap jute rug from the hardware store and it cut down the heat ALOT. Still looked decent too.
