Watched a YouTube guy say open shelves are better than upper cabinets in a home office... now I'm torn
I was watching this office makeover video last night and the guy said open shelves make a room feel bigger and force you to stay organized. But my buddy thinks upper cabinets hide clutter better and keep dust off your stuff. I'm setting up a small office in my spare bedroom in Portland and can't decide. Anyone else run into this choice and have a strong opinion one way or the other?

Oh man, is this really something to lose sleep over? I mean I get it, you want your home office to look nice but it's a spare bedroom not a museum exhibit. Open shelves look cool until you realize you have to dust every single knick knack and keep everything perfectly staged like a Target ad. Upper cabinets hide the chaos but they can also make a small room feel like a cave. I've seen people go open shelf crazy and then three months later their stuff is all dusty and crooked and they regret it. Maybe just get some cheap IKEA shelves and some basic cabinets and call it a day instead of overthinking this.

@waderamirez you nailed it. I did open shelves in my kitchen thinking it would look all aesthetic and now I'm wiping dust off tiny spice jars every weekend. It's just more work for no real payoff.
