I saw a setup at a coffee shop in Portland that used an old wooden door as a desk
It was just a solid core door propped on two filing cabinets and the whole thing probably cost under $50, has anyone else tried using reclaimed building materials for their desk instead of buying something new?

Did you check what kind of paint was on that old door? I've heard old doors sometimes have lead paint underneath newer layers. That's a real issue if you're sanding it down or drilling into it. A lot of people don't think about that when they grab free stuff from salvage yards.

Yeah @faithpatel nailed it. Lead paint is no joke. I learned that the hard way after scoring a sweet old window frame at a salvage place. Had to buy a test kit at the hardware store and ended up spending more on safety gear than the door itself was worth.

@faithpatel is right, but even a sealed lead paint layer pollutes your yard when you toss it.
