Spent $150 on a 'ergonomic' office chair from Amazon that fell apart after 3 months, should've just saved up for a Herman Miller from the start.
The fake leather started peeling in week two and the gas cylinder gave out completely last Tuesday, has anyone else gotten burned by those cheap knockoff chairs on Prime?

Did you ever stop to think that maybe the problem isn't just the chair quality, but how Amazon handles returns for this stuff? I bought a similar cheap chair and when the armrest snapped, they wanted me to pay shipping to send it back. The chair weighed like 40 pounds and shipping would have cost me more than I paid. Most people just give up and eat the loss, which is exactly what these sellers count on. Meanwhile, Herman Miller has that 12 year warranty that actually means something.

Read an article not too long ago about how Amazon basically treats their returns as a loss leader and just dumps a ton of returned stuff in landfills instead of restocking it... so they definitely don't care about a heavy chair. They're hoping you just eat the cost and move on. That 12 year Herman Miller warranty is built into the price though, you're paying for that peace of mind upfront.

$150 for an Amazon chair is like buying a budget blender and being shocked when it burns out after three months. I've noticed this pattern everywhere lately, not just with chairs but with phones, headphones, even furniture at Target. Companies figured out that if they make stuff just good enough to work for a little while and then die, most people will just shrug and buy another one instead of dealing with the hassle of returns or repairs. My buddy bought a "leather" couch from Wayfair last year and it started flaking within six months, same exact story. It's like we're all just paying to rent products for a short time instead of actually owning anything that lasts.
