PSA: That flat rate for a logo design cost me 40 hours of revisions on a single file

Back in 2019 I quoted a flat $500 for a restaurant logo and ended up redoing the fork icon 22 times over three weeks, which taught me to always cap revisions in the contract-has anyone else gotten trapped by a simple project that turned into a nightmare?

Flat rates are a trap for sure. In my experience they look good on paper but clients treat it like an all you can eat buffet. You gotta put revision limits in writing before you ever touch the file. Even then some folks will try to squeeze in extra tweaks by calling them "minor adjustments.

Oh man, this hits way too close to home. I once quoted a local coffee shop $350 for a simple badge logo with a coffee cup and leaf. That "simple" badge turned into 18 rounds of them asking to move the leaf 2 pixels to the left, then back to the right, then make it slightly greener, then less green. I ended up spending almost a full week on it for what should have been a 2 hour job. Flat rates are dangerous unless you set hard limits. Now I put a specific number of revisions right in the contract and charge per extra round after that. Learned that lesson the hard way.
