Hit 200 business cards at a single meetup last night. Felt pointless.
I went to the Houston Tech Mixer at the Post Oak Hotel and handed out 200 cards in under 2 hours. Only got maybe 5 real conversations out of it. Rest were just people grabbing cards to be polite. Has anyone else noticed these big networking events are just card collection fests?

Quality over quantity, those cards just end up in someone's trash.

Hit 200 business cards at a single meetup" - 200 cards in 2 hours is wild, but I'd gently push back on counting that as "real conversations." In my experience, you can't have more than maybe 10 quality chats in that time frame. The rest are people just being polite, like you said. Your mileage may vary, but I've found it's better to set a goal of 5 solid exchanges where you actually learn what someone does, not just grab paper.

Different goals for different people, I guess. Some folks just want to blast their name out there, not build relationships. But I've never seen a deal come from a handshake and a business card drop.
