Just found out the Houston public library has free meeting rooms for networking groups

I was scrolling through the library website yesterday looking for a quiet spot to work and stumbled on this. Apparently you can book their conference rooms for up to 2 hours totally free if you have a library card. I checked the availability for the Central location and they had slots open this Thursday afternoon. That beats paying $25 for a coffee shop table or renting a coworking space just to host a small meetup. Has anyone here used the library for a networking event before? I'm thinking about trying it out for my monthly small biz group.

Holding a networking group in a library sounds like a bad idea to me. Those rooms aren't designed for business chatter or loud conversations (they're usually right next to quiet reading areas). You're gonna get shushed by a librarian or annoyed patrons who just want to study. Plus the free wifi there is notoriously slow during peak hours, so if anyone needs to pull up a presentation or video, good luck with that buffering wheel. The two hour limit is also pretty tight for a networking event where people actually want to talk and connect. Last time I tried booking a room there, the equipment was finicky and the staff didn't know how to help with the projector. You're better off spending the $25 and getting a space where you can actually make noise without looking over your shoulder.

@michael803 pretty much nailed it honestly. Libraries and loud business chatter don't mix, I learned that the hard way when I tried to pitch my business idea and got shushed by a librarian mid sentence. The projector thing is so real too, I once spent 20 minutes trying to get one to work and the staff just shrugged at me.
