Switched from LinkedIn DMs to local meetups after 6 months of silence

Honestly, I used to spend hours sending LinkedIn messages to random Houston professionals and got maybe 2 replies out of 50 attempts. Last month I went to a small networking meetup at a coffee shop on Westheimer and got 3 solid leads in one evening. It felt way more natural talking face to face and people actually remembered me the next day. Has anyone else ditched the online approach for in person stuff around here?

That bit about people actually remembering you the next day is the real key. Online messages just vanish into a void, but when you meet someone in person you can pick up on their vibe and adjust how you talk to them. I noticed when I started going to those casual meetups instead of DMing, people would bring up stuff we chatted about weeks later like it was no big deal. The whole "follow up" game changes when they already know your face and how you laugh at their jokes.

oh wait, not quite! i mean you're right about in-person being way stickier but i wouldn't say online messages just vanish into a void. if you're DMing someone you actually vibe with and you're funny or thoughtful, they remember that stuff too. i've had people bring up random memes i sent them months ago. the difference is in person you get the whole package - their tone, their reactions, body language. but a well-timed DM can definitely leave a mark if you're not just sending "hey" or "wyd".
