My sister's humidifier tweak led to a weekend of adjustments

My sister visited and decided the air was too dry (she's always cold, you know?). She cranked up the humidifier without telling me, and now the humidity levels are all over the place. What's your go-to method for explaining HVAC settings to family without sounding like a know-it-all?

Oh man, that is the worst. My aunt did the exact same thing with my thermostat last winter, kept nudging it up because her "bones were chilly." I came home to a house feeling like a sauna and my energy bill looking scary. I've found you just have to show them the readout and say something like, "See this number? If it goes too high, bad stuff happens," and keep it super simple. They usually get it when you point to the actual gauge. Does your sister even understand what humidity level you're aiming for?

A sticky note can feel passive-aggressive instead of fixing why they're uncomfortable.

Tape a sticky note right on the control panel with the ideal range circled in red. Did that after my cousin kept messing with my dehumidifier, and it finally clicked for her when she saw the big arrow pointing to "40-50%". Sometimes they just need a visual stop sign that isn't your face. Explain it once while pointing at the note, then any future tweaks are clearly on them.
