My old laptop fan was screaming for 3 months before a repair shop guy fixed it for free
I was at this tiny repair shop in Austin last summer just to ask about prices. The guy behind the counter heard my fan noise from across the room before I even said anything. He popped the back off, blew out a dust bunny the size of a cotton ball, and handed it back to me silent. I offered him $20 but he said "just keep it clean and save the money for a better SSD." Has anyone else had a repair person do something like that, or is it just me?

Honestly just popping the back off and hitting it with compressed air every few months is the best advice that same shop guy pretty much saved me from replacing a whole motherboard once. Grab a can of air for like $5 at any office store and blow out the vents and fan grills every 3-4 months, especially if you keep the laptop on a desk or carpet. That dust buildup will kill your fan bearings and make it sound like a jet engine long before the actual fan dies.

Dunno @shanes66, feels like people overhype this dust thing.
