Started requiring a 25% deposit upfront for every "pay on receipt" client and never looked back. It weeds out the time wasters before they even start and keeps you from chasing payments for months. Also helps to set a hard 15 day payment window in your contract with a late fee clause.

Ugh, but "pay on receipt" means they pay right when they get the invoice though?
