I finally learned why my 2 AM calls with this one client were so weird
So I've been doing graphic design for about 8 months now, mostly late at night cause I work best after midnight. Last week I had a Zoom call at 2:30 AM with this guy from Texas who wanted a logo. He kept pausing and asking really random stuff like 'what font would a raccoon pick'. Turns out he was doing construction all day and only had brain power to talk design at 2 AM because his kids were finally asleep. That stuck with me because I realized we were both night owls for totally different reasons. Has anyone else had a client where you just clicked because you both work these weird hours?

Did you ever find out what font a raccoon would actually pick? I'm kind of curious now, feel like it'd be something ugly but practical like Comic Sans.

Honestly, don't you think that whole story just proves we romanticize working at weird hours way too much? I get the appeal of late night quiet time, but splitting your brain power like that is a recipe for burnout not bonding. Sounds like he was half asleep and you were running on adrenaline, and now you're calling it a 'click' when it was really just two tired people making bad decisions together. Ngl, I think if you took that same call at a normal hour you'd realize the raccoon font question wasn't quirky, it was a sign he needed sleep more than a logo.

Late night me once spent a full hour trying to explain to a client why their company logo shouldn't be in Papyrus. Pretty sure I was the one who needed sleep, not more font opinions. Do you think there's a 12-step program for weird hour decision making?
