Just learned Square charges 2.6% plus 10 cents for swiped transactions on their basic plan

Was digging through my monthly statements after a $4,200 weekend at the farmers market in Portland and realized I could have saved like $60 just by switching to a different processor, anyone else find a hidden fee that made you rethink your whole setup?

Could have saved like $60" is exactly the kind of thing my buddy Dave found out the hard way. He runs a little coffee cart and noticed Stripe was taking way more than he thought on his iced latte sales. Took him a whole afternoon to switch processors and he said it was the best few hours he ever spent.

Took me about 4 hours to switch my shop from Square to a local processor last year. I was losing almost 4% on chip transactions because Square added a bunch of fees I didn't notice at first. The new guy charges a flat 2.2% plus 15 cents and it showed up in my bank account right away. Biggest thing was checking my statements line by line for every fee before I made the switch. Now I run a report every month to make sure nothing changed without me knowing.

His latte customers probably didn't even notice the change, right? What was the tell that made him finally look closer at his Stripe fees?
