Pro tip: Stop using the same terminal for both debit and credit transactions

I noticed at my shop in Austin that customers kept swiping debit cards as credit by accident, costing me an extra 30 cents per transaction. The bank told me debit transactions processed through the PIN pad cost 0.25% less than credit ones. After I put a small sign on the terminal saying "swipe debit here" it saved me about $120 a month. Has anyone else checked their batch reports for hidden fees like this?

Did your friend notice a difference in their batch reports after reading that too? My neighbor had the same problem at her bakery in Round Rock, and she figured out the bank was charging her a penny more per transaction than she thought. She just switched to a different processor after that.

Getting a different processor helped my buddy too. He runs a coffee shop in Austin and noticed those tiny fees added up fast each month. Switching to a flat rate processor cleared up the confusion and actually saved him some cash.
