Talked to a guy at a payment processing seminar and he flipped my whole fee structure around

I was at that merchant services meetup in Phoenix last month and this older guy named Steve just laid it out plain. He said 'stop hiding your fees in the rates and just charge an honest monthly flat fee plus cost.' I had been doing the old tiered pricing thing for 3 years and thought it was fine. But he showed me his setup where he charges $99 a month flat plus interchange on top and his retention rate is way higher. It hit different because I realized I was losing clients over surprise fees I never explained. Has anyone else tried the flat fee model and seen a real difference in how long clients stick around?

Read a white paper from the Strawhecker Group a couple months back that dug into this exact thing. They found merchants who understand their pricing down to the penny keep their processor about 40% longer on average. Makes sense in a blunt way. When you hide fees in tiered nonsense, you're basically betting the client is too lazy to audit their statement. Flat fee removes that gamble entirely. Steve's method sounds like he's the grownup in the room while the rest of the industry still plays games.

oh my friend actually tried this exact thing last year after a similar talk lol. she said the first few months were scary cause clients thought $99 was too much up front but by month 6 her churn dropped like crazy. now she jokes it's the only way she can sleep at night knowing nobody's gonna call her pissed about hidden fees
